Our Funky Monkey sessions at the Jesmond Session are an hour long and run in association with Aberdeen Wrestling. We only take up to 8 children per coach for the youngest and up to 20 for academy pupils, meaning that we can spend more time making sure that the kids are enjoying themselves, and of course keeping an extra eye on them. All of our sessions are run by qualified and experienced coaches who all have been through the required PVG disclosure checks, safeguarding and first aid training.
The sessions we run are designed to be as FUN as possible. We play loads of fun cooperative games that get the kids active and help them to become more confident and learn to work together, whilst developing their skills. We reward effort and make sure it's not about winning. Click here for more information

WHAT WE DO
We run fun, engaging sports based activities sessions for boys and girls from 4 - 16 years old. We started running our preschool session and P1 - P2 session at Westhill Community Church back in February and haven't looked back. We also do offer P6 - S3 Olympic Freestyle Wrestling at the Jesmond Centre on Sunday's from 12:00pm - 1:00pm
If you watch kids carefully today in primary and secondary school you might notice that there are some pretty poor movement patterns, some struggle with coordination and their physical ability isn't quite where you think it should be. There are numerous reasons for that, all backed up by research. For preschoolers and primary aged children, there is a whole lot more to kicking, jumping, running, throwing or catching than you might think and whilst children do absorb a phenomenal amount of information, they are still developing their motor skills through out their childhood. For the young ones even simple rules may be hard for them to understand, as any parent who has watched their child run the wrong way during a game or gets upset during pass the parcel knows. We aim to make sure that Funky Monkey sessions continue to develop those skills and for the older kids we try to hone and help them get to grips with sport.
Funky Monkey Sports UK was set up in 2015 and provides 4 - 16 year olds with a fun and safe environment to develop their skills through stability, object control and locomotion activities. For the younger ones... we encourage active play and develop the motor skills that are needed before you even think about running, jumping, kicking, throwing or catching a ball. For the slightly older children we tailor our sessions to suit their needs and begin to introduce sport specific skills. The most important aspect of our sessions is that they are great fun, we build rapport with the kids and encourage them to develop not only their physical and cognitive skills but also teach them softer life skills such as communication, cooperation, motivation, determination and respect. We help to promote taking turns, sharing and working as part of team, all important aspects of development. There is a lot of research out there about the impact of teaching life lessons through sport and physical activity and we have adopted the Positive Coaching Scotland Ethos in all our sessions.
Why did Funky Monkey Sports UK start up? Well, its pretty simple. We wanted to use the skills and expertise we've learnt over the last 15 years in sports coaching and put them to good use, what better way to do that then the pass that onto some of the youngest in our community and our possible future sporting stars.
